Bordering Oceanside, the northwest part of Carlsbad was the first to be settled and as such is also known as Old Carlsbad. Carlsbad Village, or “The Village” is the lively downtown with many restaurants, shops, and hotels. The neighborhoods surrounding the village are rich with classic California architecture, including beach bungalows, charming Craftsman cottages, and airy hillside mansions.

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon, also referred to as the Carlsbad Lagoon, is located just east of the 5 freeway south of Tamarack Avenue is a favorite place for boating, stand-up paddle-boarding and fishing.

As the golf manufacturing capital of the world, Carlsbad is home to Callaway Golf Company, TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company, Cobra Golf, Titleist, and Odyssey Golf. While golf is a notable industry for the city, Carlsbad’s other top employers include Life Technologies, Viasat, and Legoland. A destination for visitors from around the world, Legoland is also a popular local attraction for local families with an annual membership to enjoy the park anytime. The Carlsbad Premium Outlets is a shopping mecca that hosts dozens of luxury retailers, and is adjacent to the spectacularly colorful Flower Fields, which opens to the public each spring.
